Our team is comprised of a husband and wife couple who share a passion for cooking and fresh, healthy food.
Jeeranan Tiwboonliang Rom was born in the north of Thailand. She developed her cooking skills from her father, a highway engineer who moved throughout Thailand every two years, which gave her a broad knowledge of Thai cuisine from all regions in the country. Her nickname, Paan (Big Smile), was given by her grandmother at a young age. She attended Suansunandha University, graduating with a degree in business accounting. She resided in Bangkok and was employed by an international insurance firm as a life insurance agent when she met Roger. Some of the dishes developed for Thai Cuisine by Paan are from traditional recipes she enjoyed growing up. She has traveled throughout Asia, learning the cuisine of other cultures.
Roger was born in Ely, Minnesota, where his father operated a successful canoe outfitting business. Roger grew up in the business and learned the importance of attention to detail and customer satisfaction from his father. He attended Hamline University School of Law and was employed by the Alaska Department of Law until his retirement in 2015, when he relocated to Ely. During the next five years he traveled the globe for six months of the year, following his passion for food at bistros, high end restaurants, as well as simpler fare from street vendors.
Roger and Paan blended their cooking styles and enjoyed taking cooking classes on their travels, notably at the Sofitel Hotel Restaurant in Luang Prabang, Laos, at Hua Hin, Thailand, Penang, Malaysia, and Vientianne, Laos. They married in May 2020.
Their journeys soon became more than a passion for food. Traveling across Asia and beyond allowed them to experience the beauty of different cultures, meet wonderful people, and admire the remarkable artistry unique to each destination.
Inspired by these unforgettable experiences, Thai Creations by Paan was born. Paan's love for art, culture, and timeless craftsmanship is reflected in every original painting and handcrafted creation. Each piece is thoughtfully designed to capture the beauty, peace, and inspiration discovered along their travels.
Through these creations, Roger and Paan hope to bring a small part of the world into your home—as if you were traveling alongside them. They sincerely hope you will find the same joy, wonder, and inspiration in these works as they did during their journeys.
Travel has always been one of our greatest teachers.
Wherever our journeys take us, we make it a tradition to join local cooking classes. Whether in Vietnam, Malaysia, Cambodia, or Laos, every lesson has deepened our appreciation for local ingredients, cooking techniques, and cultural traditions.
We bring these valuable experiences home to continuously improve our recipes, expand our knowledge, and create cooking classes that are authentic, inspiring, and filled with stories from our travels.
Thank you for being part of our journey.
We hope our food, artwork, and handcrafted creations bring warmth, inspiration, and happiness to your life. We look forward to welcoming you again and hope you'll continue following our journey and future creations.
With love and gratitude,
Roger & Paan
